CANCER SOCIETY – RELAY FOR LIFE KL 2009 ON 30 MAY NEEDS COMMUNICATION VOLUNTEER
The National Cancer Society of Malaysia will be having their third Relay for Life (RLF) on the 30th May from 6 pm to 10 am 31 May at the MSN Training Stadium , Bukit Jalil.
United Amateur Radio members from many clubs have been supporting this event since the beginning. This event is growing in number every year , and NCSM needs our help to assist them.
We are looking for Amateur Radio volunteers from any Society / Clubs /individuals to help us jointly in providing communication for this event as part of our Amateur Radio community service and civil communication.
We are allocated half a booth to exhibit our amateur radio equipments and information on our hobby . Those who wants to exhibit their equipment to the public can do so free of charge . As there is no charge, there will not be any selling we can only display equipments, educational materials and poster.
If any Amateur Radio clubs / society or individuals would like to register their team to participate in this event and parade on the track can register at their website : www.cancer.org.my
If you want to be a volunteer email to
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
or call me on my hand phone 019 2225724 Azhar (9W2AXE).
Its an all night event and we need many volunteers to work in shifts. Our duty will mainly be to provide communication but we will be required to assist in light crowd control, logistics, the medical units, F&B section, program coordination and many more.
If you just want to join in the fun and support this event for a good cause come join us on that day and register on the spot or you can register early through the website. Bring the family and lets us all enjoy this all night event together. You can rent a tent or bring your own tents.
This would be a good platform for us to jointly work and train together as a team for future communication requirements.

To gain experience for DX-peditions for the Ham Radio operators and to promote “exotic” Malaysia among International DXCC chasers or seekers.
Pilot project proposed, as a future yearly event on the 2nd weekend of August and to be inserted in the Tourism Malaysia Calendar of the year.
Since the 2nd weekend of August every year, coincides with the “Asia Pacific JOTA”, this ILLW event is extended to all Boy Scouts and Girl Guides via BP House Malaysia, to join in the fun at the light houses or contact the light houses via Ham Radio.

I know many wanted to be there to help but couldn’t make it due to unforeseen circumstances.
I would like to apologize if I missed out anyone. Please inform me so that I could add you to this list.
A big thanks again and hope next year there will be more volunteers from many other societies and clubs. We look forward to more members so that there would be large enough numbers to parade on the track and participate in the team event /competitions.
At relay for life - Once a year, we all come together as one amateur radio family to help out in charitable event such as this. See you next year !!

THE KAMPUNG REKOM REPORT :: THE FINAL CLIMB AT SIMPO HILL
We collected the last of the donated goods at Anis Putri 2 in TTDI and 4 cars made their way to Raub at 10 pm on Friday 7 November 2008. We broke our journey in Raub for the night. The next morning 6 cars in Raub were to rendezvous with another 3 cars in Gua Musang.
OUR TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS IN A CONVOY
After lunch in Gua Musang, volunteers in nine off road vehicles convoyed towards Pos Simpo. The group entered the trail around 1230pm, with a fine weather outlook.
We reached Kg Dandut at 530pm where some of the donated goods was unloaded. Kampong Dandut, was the first village along the journey of about 40km from the trail head. There we were told that the logging had stopped since September and it was difficult for the villagers to get in and out especially for Kampong Rekom the last village along the route.
