Malaysian Nation Wide Light House Weekend 2009 (MLHW 09), and International Light House Ham Radio Weekend 2009

Purpose:

  1. This event is not a contest, there are no prizes or any other enticements to participate and is therefore free of charge.
  2. To promote public awareness of ham radio and lighthouses in Malaysia.
  3. To acknowledge the contribution and recognition of the lighthouses and their keepers.
  4. To foster fellowship among members of the various Ham Radio clubs and Lighthouse Societies in Malaysia.
  5. To gain experience for DX-peditions for the Ham Radio operators and to promote “exotic” Malaysia among International DXCC chasers or seekers.
  6. Pilot project proposed, as a future yearly event on the 2nd weekend of August and to be inserted in the Tourism Malaysia Calendar of the year.
  7. Since the 2nd weekend of August every year, coincides with the “Asia Pacific JOTA”, this ILLW event is extended to all Boy Scouts and Girl Guides via BP House Malaysia, to join in the fun at the light houses or contact the light houses via Ham Radio.

MLHW 09 Guidelines.

  1. The Ham Radio Station shall be in operations under the guidance and overall supervision of a competent Station Master according to Malaysian Law, which are appointed due to administrative reasons.
  2. Operations from the light house are only allowed once approval for “entry and activity” is obtained from the Pengarah Jabatan Laut, Malaysia.
  3. Special callsign under the class A category (9M2 / 9M6 / 9M8), shall be issued by SKMM under the name of the respective Appointed Station Master for each Light Houses. (Preferred 9MxL??)
  4. This event falls under the category for Youth, Fellowship Program, Sport, Tourism, Technology, Innovation, Unity, Awareness Program and etc.
  5. There is no new rules to this contest expect to make as many contacts as possible either to local or DX stations and promote the objectives as stated above.
  6. Log Sequence or Contest number shall start as “MLHW09 – 001”, followed by RST.
  7. Band – 160M(1.8Mhz), 80M(3.6Mhz), 40M (7.0Mhz), 20M (14.2Mhz) 15M (21.1Mhz), 10M (28.4Mhz), 6M (50.4Mhz), 2M (144Mhz), 70CM (435Mhz), Internet
  8. Mode – Voice, Morse Code, APRS, PSK 31, RTTY, SSTV, Satellite
  9. Antenna & Radio – Open Type
  10. Time frame open for TX – 30 hours (Sat 9am till Sun 3pm MST).
  11. QSL card acknowledgement is encourage, but at your own expenses. If, wish to print bulk QSL cards, permission from the Station Master of the Light House / Callsign / AA is required in writing, prior to the printing.
  12. Since the Asia Pacific JOTA is schedule for the 2nd full weekend of August (i.e. 14-16 Aug 2009), all Station Masters are encourage to extend the invitation to Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of various schools within the area to visit the Radio station at the light houses.
  13. 2nd operator (i.e. Boy Scouts or Girl Guides) are allowed to operate at any available Ham Radio Station under the guidance of the Appointed Station Master of each Light House.
  14. Please log the details of the 2nd operator for the Station Masters Record.
  15. Photograph or video to share on the internet is encouraged.
  16. Introduce GOTA Concept (Get on the Air).
  17. Awareness campaign of the existence of Ham Radio with target markets (i.e. Agong / PM to visit the station, VIPs, Press / Media, School / Scouts / Guides, Club / Association / Society, Govt / Kementerian / Jabatan, NGO groups, Public).
  18. Each Light House Station Master is encouraged to appoint a PR or Information Manager, with the correct materials to facilitate the awareness of Ham Radio to visitors.
  19. Please log the details of the visitor for the Station Masters Record.
  20. Photograph or video to share on the internet is encouraged.
